Ground Mobile Survey:

For sky brightness data to have maximum utility for environmental, ecological and urban planning studies it is desirable that they not be collected from just relatively few single fixed sites, but rather that they be collected at multiple points distributed over areas of interest. Temporal collection of data on different time scales is also of potential value.

This task, particularly for relatively small geographic areas, can often be accomplished using ground based mobile mapping of night light with geo-positioning. In the early stages of planning it is important to obtain a baseline mapping of the area of interest for future comparison. For example, see below, for the ground track and resulting light at night GIS display for a proposed Triple A sports field in Escondido California.
