Satellite Data Survey:

The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership or Suomi NPP, is a satellite operated by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Suomi NPP carries the VIIRs imaging system which is capable of high resolution and sensitive imaging of the earth's surface on a nightly basis. This capability provides a unique resource for evaluating ALAN intensity and temporal changes of ALAN levels.

In addition, Stemlab, has developed unique software and methods to utilize the satellite data to establish zenith angle dependency of ALAN for specific geographic locations. This provides key information for characterization of the environmental impact of artificial light sources.
